Great article about the shady dealings in Chicago relating to the alcohol sales at Lollapalooza and how it affects Chicago music fans. Jim DeRogatis is one of my favorite record review critics and music journalist.
I recently went to a friend's house who has MTV Hits and MTV Jams (aka the only stations that play music videos aka wasn't that was MTV 2 was supposed to be). Anyways I am liking these videos right now.
With the updated release of the Yelp app for the iPhone, Yelp has added badges that you can earn for your check-ins and other yelping activities (much like foursquare). Yelp has not published the criteria to get each badge (just names listed) so how you acquire them is somewhat a mystery. I will be updating this posting as I earn badges and publish what was needed to get the badge.
Rookie: Check-in at two places.
Pro (updates rookie): Check-in at 20 places in one week.
True Yelper: Check-in at 10 places and write reviews for those 10 places. Globetrotter: Check-in to an airport 5 times.
Mexi-Can: Got this for checking in at 6 Mexican restaurants. This occurred over a period of 10 days if time is a component of this badge.
Update (8/23/2010): Badges can apparently expire. I got a notice that my globetrotter badge will expire in 11 days if I don't check-in at more places (airports). I am not sure what the requirements are to save a badge from expiring or the length of time before a badge expires based on the last check-in to earn the badge.
Just got notice from Kerasotes that the Five Buck Club will be ceasing operations starting May 25 2010. After Kerasotes sold their Chicago theaters to AMC, that AMC turned around and sold them to Regal Cinemas and Regal has killed the five buck club. I loved the five buck club and would go see movies after they had been in the theater for awhile and before they got to Netflix. Now it looks like I will go to the theater even less now. Most movies are not worth basically paying the same price as their DVD to see when they are first out in theaters. Text Below:
Dear Five Buck Club Member of City North 14 and Webster Place,
I wrote you recently about AMC's acquisition of the Kerasotes Theatres. In a subsequent transaction, AMC has sold the City North 14 and Webster Place to Regal Cinemas. Regal will take over management of these two locations effective May 25, 2010.
We have been asked by Regal to inform you that they will not be honoring Five Buck Club cards after they assume operation of these locations on May 25, 2010.
I do not usually like to declare a party but that is what you do for the primaries so I begrudgingly went with republican. The guy I like who seems pretty libertarian-ish is Paul Hamann. He's all for getting out of the wars were in and limiting the power of government which I like. Check out his site http://hamannforcongress.blogspot.com/ .
As outlined in posts below DirecTV has been making my service crappier throughout the past year. And now as a reward for giving me less programming they are raising my bill too. It is no surprise that they are getting sued for their practices in one class action lawsuit. I really wish I could say that my experience will get better because I'm paying more but I know it will not. I think they take the #1 spot away from AT&T in my most disliked company that I pay a bill to every month (excluding various govts. via taxes).
